Volunteer your time and talents:

Willow House’s programs would not be possible without our dedicated corps of volunteers. Volunteers serve as group facilitators, develop new programs, assist with special programs such as the Family Camp and Holiday Remembrance Gathering, and do fundraising and administrative work that supports our services.

Volunteer facilitators complete an intensive, 20-hour training course that covers the many issues related to providing counsel to grieving families in a group setting. Many of our volunteer facilitators have a background in social work, mental health, or a related field, but a sincere desire to work personally with grieving families is the only requirement to become a volunteer facilitator. A commitment of one group session -- about three hours per month -- is typically required of group facilitators.

If you can offer your time and special talents to help Willow House serve grieving families, please contact us.

Volunteer Profile:

Marcia Sagendorph is the kind of volunteer that every social service organization dreams of having. She is dedicated, hard working, and cares deeply about the children she works with. Marcia joined Willow House three years ago and has contributed to our organization in a variety of ways.

First, as a volunteer facilitator Marcia works with the fourth and fifth grade children each month, helping them support one another and find ways to cope with the complex emotional journey of grief. Marcia's easy going, warm manner makes her a person that kids can trust. Nothing the children do seems to rattle Marcia, and she has been a shining, steady presence at our Libertyville monthly group.

In addition to her talents as a facilitator, Marcia has volunteered at our Family Camp, Holiday Gathering and has even helped with our fundraising. Marcia is also a gifted writer, and has spent untold hours writing press releases and articles to promote Willow House.

Marcia's own parents both had died by the time she was a teenager. As a result she has a deep appreciation for the struggles and challenges of grieving children. Marcia has a special ability to draw from her own life experience while at the same time honoring the unique journey that each child is on at Willow House.

We thank you Marcia for your continued passion for this work. You are what makes Willow House a very special place where hope lives.
