“An ungrieved loss remains forever alive in our unconscious, which has no sense of time.” ~ B.G. Simos | | About Willow House:
In Western culture the Willow Tree symbolizes death, grief and mourning. In Eastern tradition, the Willow Tree symbolizes beauty, grace, endurance and strength.
Willow House is a social service organization dedicated to helping children, teens, families and communities who are coping with death and dying. Services include support groups, educational resources and referrals, community outreach and special programs and workshops. These programs are community based so that they are easily accessible and foster peer support and interaction among the bereaved within the comfort and familiarity of their own communities. At Willow House, our programs reflect our belief in: • The value of community-based programs for convenience, comfort in familiar surroundings and fostering ongoing relationships among the bereaved families outside the group setting; • The value of ongoing service as opposed to occasional, limited service - because this is what bereaved families tell us they prefer and also because children grieve developmentally and their need for support is ongoing throughout their development; • The value of children and teens sharing their grieving process and working through their feelings with same aged peers; and • The value of our program having a "family systems" approach and providing services for the whole family. The purpose of Willow House is to provide and develop supportive services for children, teens, families and communities who are coping with death and dying.
